UCF graduates in Nursing will be able to:

Discipline Specific Knowledge, Skills, Behavior and Values Outcomes

1. Describe the concepts that provide the foundation of the nursing curriculum, including those in anatomy and physiology, nutrition, microbiology, pharmacology, and growth and development.

Measure 1.1: All nursing students will pass each of the sets of questions related to targeted areas on the Nursing Foundations Proficiency Exam with at least 70%. All students must demonstrate proficiency in concepts including anatomy and physiology, nutrition, microbiology, pharmacology, and growth and development. (This test can be taken multiple times until 70% proficiency is earned in the targeted areas.)
Measure 1.2: All students will score at least 80% proficiency on each of the minute papers in NUR1880 that require them to describe the core concepts. (A random sample of half of the papers will be assessed for each.)

2. Explain the use of the nursing process in providing care to clients of all ages.

Measure 2.1: All students will achieve at least 70% proficiency on the essay question on the final exam in NUR2221 that asks them to explain the use of the nursing process in providing care to clients of all ages.
Measure 2.2: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the explanation of the nursing process on the Checklist of Clinical Abilities assessed by their clinical preceptor.

3. Describe and use appropriate teaching-learning theories to design, implement, and evaluate educational experiences with clients of all ages and abilities.

Measure 3.1: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the application of appropriate teaching-learning theories in the simulation in NUR3123 as assessed by a faculty panel using a scoring rubric.
Measure 3.2: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the appropriate use of teaching-learning experiences on the Checklist of Clinical Abilities assessed by their clinical preceptor.

4. Implement and evaluate therapeutic nursing interventions.

Measure 4.1: All students will earn at least 70% on the test requiring the appropriate implementation and evaluation of therapeutic nursing interventions. (This test is given in NUR2221 and again in NUR3123 for those who did not earn a 70% on the first test.)
Measure 4.2: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher as rated by a faculty member on oral questions asked as part of the final exam in NUR4010.

5. Demonstrate skilled use of nursing equipment.

Measure 5.1: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the skilled use of nursing equipment in the simulation in NUR3123 as assessed by a faculty panel using a scoring rubric.
Measure 5.2: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the skilled use of nursing equipment on the Checklist of Clinical Abilities assessed by their clinical preceptor.

Critical Thinking Outcomes

6. Conduct accurate health assessments to determine appropriate care of individuals, families and communities.

Measure 6.1: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the health assessments in three situations given as assignments in NUR3123 as assessed using a scoring rubric.
Measure 6.2: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the accuracy of health assessments on the Checklist of Clinical Abilities assessed by their clinical preceptor.

7. Practice active inquiry and problem solving strategies in addressing health care concerns.

Measure 7.1: All students will pass each of the sets of questions related to targeted areas on the Nursing Strategies Exam with at least a 70%. All students must demonstrate proficiency in problem solving strategies. (This test may be taken more than once.)
Measure 7.2: All students will demonstrate at least 80% proficiency in responses to hypothetical clinical situations that require active inquiry and problem solving strategies. These will be part of the assessment in NUR2210 and NUR3123.

8. Evaluate and use appropriate research findings in nursing practice.

Measure 8.1: All students will integrate current research findings with at least a 65% proficiency into the description of possible responses to patient assessment written as an assignment in NUR4410.
Measure 8.2: All students will integrate at least 5 citations from contemporary research into the nursing practice project in NUR4410 and be rated at least "Acceptable" on the scoring rubric addressing the accurate and appropriate use of research findings.

Communication Outcomes

9. Use information technologies effectively.

Measure 9.1: All students will achieve at least 70% proficiency on the information technologies questions embedded in tests in NUR2210 and NUR3123.
Measure 9.2: All students will achieve at least 70% proficiency on the use of the internet for references in their paper project in NUR3123. A scoring rubric will be used to evaluate the appropriate use of the internet for source information.

10. Make effective oral presentations of research findings.

Measure 10.1: All students will achieve at least 70% proficiency on the oral presentation of the research findings regarding patient assessment in NUR4410.
Measure 10.1: All students will achieve at least 70% proficiency on the information technologies questions embedded in tests in NUR2210 and NUR3123.

11. Demonstrate proficiency in nursing terminology and abbreviations.

Measure 11.1: All nursing students will pass each of the sets of questions related to targeted areas on the Nursing Foundations Proficiency Exam with at least 70%. All students must demonstrate proficiency in the identification and application of biological and physiological nursing terminology. (This test may be taken more than once.)
Measure 11.2: All nursing students will demonstrate at least 80% proficiency in the terms and abbreviations used in reports prepared for their clinical reports, as rated by their preceptors.

12. Write accurate reports for varied purposes: records, summaries, etc.

Measure 12.1: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the written summaries of health assessments in three situations given as assignments in NUR3123 as assessed using a scoring rubric.
Measure 12.2: All students will achieve a rating of "satisfactory" or higher on the accuracy of the records and reports completed during their clinical experience on the Checklist of Clinical Abilities assessed by their clinical preceptor.
